Rev. Kim Sun-Tae Publishes His Collective Essays, The Sound of the Morning Sun.

“I have lived my life with a deep Han (translated in English as resentment, sorrow, regret) of losing my eyesight from a bomb explosion during the Korean Civil War. Each morning I wake up with a longing to see the sun that I used to see as a child. Although I had difficulties that are beyond any words can explain, I thought about the depth and height of life through the Bible and have successfully achieved the purpose and happiness of life. In gratitude, I am releasing this book to share 70 years of my faith journey after becoming blind.”

Reverend Kim Sun-Tae, Director of Siloam Eye Hospital and a recipient of Ramon Magsaysay Award also known as the Asian Nobel Peace Prize, published his book titled, “The Sound of the Morning Sun” which was written based on his experience of God’s grace and miracles to share a message of hope once again to people with visual impairment and who are in despair.

Rev. Kim said, “I was worried about whether this book should be published or not. I sent a copy to Prof. Kim Hyong-seok to write a recommendation letter only if he liked it, and he gladly wrote one. So I took courage to publish the book.“ He added, ”Like the rising sun that slowly spreads out, I wanted to convey blessings, hopes, dreams, life’s courage and joy. So I slept less than most people, prayed continuously, and wrote down my inspirational thoughts at each dawn.

On March 12, a special worship service was held at Siloam Eye Hospital to celebrate Rev. Kim’s publication of the book. Honorary Professor Kim Hyeong-seok (Yonsei University), Park Wi-geun and Lee Sung-hee (ex-moderators), Rev. Kwak Sun-hee (retired, Somang Church), Elder Kim Gun-chul, Elder Lee Hyo-jong, Elder Hong Gi-sook, and members of National Women’s Mission Association came to offer congratulatory remarks.

Prof. Kim Hyong-seok who had taught Rev. Kim wrote in his recommendation letter, “Although Rev. Kim lost his physical light, he gained and shared his spiritual light to many others. His stories are not burdensome but offer enlightenment and make you reflect on yourself: Why wasn’t I able to live like that?”
